Job Summary

 

The Agronomist is responsible for planning, supervising, and optimizing crop production activities across the farm sites. The role ensures effective soil management, crop health monitoring, input planning, and field supervision to maximize crop yield and support livestock feed production where applicable.

Description

 

The Agronomist manages field crop production including land preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, pest and weed control, and harvesting. The role works closely with farm supervisors and attendants to ensure crop production activities follow farm SOPs and agricultural best practices.

Responsibilities

 

Develop crop production plans and seasonal planting schedules.

Select appropriate crop varieties suitable for soil and climate conditions.

Conduct soil assessments and recommend soil improvement strategies.

Plan fertilizer application schedules and soil nutrition programs.

Supervise land preparation, planting, irrigation, and harvesting activities.

Monitor crop growth stages and field performance.

Identify pest, disease, and weed problems and implement control measures.

Ensure safe and effective use of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

Maintain records of crop production activities including inputs and harvest data.

Track input usage and analyze crop performance to improve productivity.

Coordinate with the Procurement Officer for sourcing agricultural inputs.

Work with the Storekeeper to ensure timely availability of farm inputs.

Ensure crop production activities comply with farm SOPs and safety procedures.

Educational Qualification and Experience

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field with 3–5 years experience in crop production or agronomy.

Experience managing field operations or supervising farm labor teams is preferred.

Requirements:

 

Ability to work across multiple farm sites.

Strong observational and analytical skills.

Ability to supervise field workers and coordinate farm activities.

Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.

Willingness to work in field environments and travel between farm locations when required.
