Job Description
The School Account Officer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial activities of the school, ensuring proper management, accountability, and transparency of all financial transactions.
The role supports effective financial planning and helps maintain the institution’s financial stability.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily financial transactions including receipts, payments, and bank deposits
Collect and properly record tuition fees, levies, and other school-related payments
Issue receipts and maintain accurate financial records and ledgers
Prepare periodic financial reports (daily, weekly, monthly, and termly)
Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and cash books regularly
Process staff salaries, allowances, and other payments as approved
Assist in budget preparation and monitor budget implementation
Track expenditures and ensure they align with approved budgets
Maintain proper documentation and filing of all financial records
Liaise with auditors, banks, and relevant financial institutions
Ensure compliance with school financial policies and regulatory standards
Support management with financial insights for decision-making
Handle confidential financial information with integrity and discretion
Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
Professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) is an added advantage
At least 2–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a school or similar institution
Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial reporting
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel)
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Good organizational and time management skills
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
