A\u00a0Protection Assistant\u00a0provides vital operational and field support to ensure the safety, dignity, and human rights of vulnerable populations, such as refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and survivors of violence.
\nThis role, prevalent in organizations like\u00a0UNHCR,\u00a0IRC, and the\u00a0Danish Refugee Council (DRC), serves as a frontline link between an organization\u2019s protection strategy and the community it serves.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nThe role involves a mix of direct community engagement and administrative case management:<\/p>\n
Case Management & Referrals:\u00a0Identifying individuals with specific needs\u2014such as unaccompanied children or survivors of gender-based violence (GBV)\u2014and referring them to appropriate medical, legal, or psychosocial services.
\nProtection Monitoring:\u00a0Conducting field visits, community meetings, and focus group discussions to identify emerging safety risks and human rights concerns.
\nIndividual Counseling:\u00a0Providing initial emotional support (Psychological First Aid) and conducting intake interviews to profile cases.
\nData Management:\u00a0Maintaining accurate, confidential records in secure databases like\u00a0Kobo Toolbox\u00a0or UNHCR\u2019s\u00a0proGres\u00a0to track interventions and report progress.
\nCommunity Outreach:\u00a0Facilitating awareness sessions on legal rights, safeguarding, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).
\nCore Requirements<\/p>\n
Education:\u00a0A\u00a0Bachelor\u2019s Degree\u00a0in Law, Social Work, International Relations, or Social Sciences is standard. Some entry-level roles may accept a high school diploma with significant field experience.
\nExperience:\u00a0Typically requires\u00a01\u20133 years\u00a0of experience in humanitarian or social work, specifically with displaced populations or in volatile environments.
\nLanguages:\u00a0Fluency in\u00a0English\u00a0is usually required, along with proficiency in\u00a0local languages\u00a0relevant to the duty station to communicate effectively with beneficiaries.
