Website Plan International Nigeria

Plan International Nigeria with support from Plan International United States National Office (USNO) is implementing a Middle-belt Youth Peacebuilding Academy (MBYPA) Project.

The project seeks to build peace and inter-communal tolerance and trust through a two-year project that strengthens the technical peacebuilding and project management skills of young leaders in 10 communities of Kaduna and Plateau State. Through the project the organisation, with the young people seek to launch initiatives that build tolerance and promote religious freedom in the target communities.

These initiatives are intended to strengthen the freedoms of thought, conscience, and religion by building social inclusion through awareness and tolerance of differing religions, beliefs, and non-beliefs. The project will also support increased inter-communal trust, slow recruitment and support for violent religious extremists and other armed non-state actors, and reduce the likelihood that individuals will escalate isolated conflict into broader violence.

Plan is proposing to compile, publish, and translate the existing YPA Training Manual into an abridged, youth-friendly version that can be readily used by youth cohorts and other community members for peace promotion purposes. The manual would be condensed to a 25-page document that will be available in both English and Hausa. It is anticipated that the abridged version will include simplified, user-friendly language, as well as youth-friendly infographics explaining key peacebuilding principles.
